Saving a little each week on groceries can add up quickly. If you save $25 per week that adds up to $1,300 a year. Save $50 per week adds up to $2,600 a year. A weekly savings on $75 turns into $3,900 a year!
Here are tips on saving money on groceries.
- Buy food in bulk with friends. Everything can be divided up in resealable bags.
- Buy extra items when things are on sales including fruits and vegetables. Simply cook and freeze for a later date.
- Cook in large quantities and then freeze the extra food. This not only saves money – it saves time. There is nothing as easy as pulling out a resealable freezerr bag and putting it in microwave to defrost when busy.
- Coupons. Yes use all those online sites that make it easy to find coupons in your area. Shop on the day grocery stores offer to double the discount.
- Avoid eating out as much as possible. Instead plan potluck dinners with friends. Use those frozen meals in your freezer to make it even easier.
- Stop buying bottled water. Buy a faucet filter such as Brita or Pura. Then a reusable water container such as Klean Kanteen or Sigg. If plastic make sure it is BPA free!
- Shop at the local farmers market. Cook and freeze items for when they are out of season.
- Reduce the amount of soda you drink. Instead drink more water. Try favoring it with fruit such as lemon, cucumber, or strawberry.
- Shop in the clearance basket/bin. These are often items the store will no longer be carrying, change in label, or will be expiring soon.
