5 Ways to Save Money on Food in College

Looking for ways to save some money on your food bill? Below are 5 ways to do that.

- Some dormitories will give you the option to purchase meals in advance, and if you buy several meals in advance you may be given considerable discounts. The more meals that you pay for in advance, the larger the discount is.

- If you do your own groceries, make a list before going to the store. This will avoid impulse buying, and therefore help you spend less. Also, buy items you know you will always need in bulk and be on the lookout for sales.

- Avoid buying food from vending machines or convenience stores. The costs add up, and the prices are usually higher than if you bought the same item elsewhere.

- As much as possible, make meals yourself. It usually costs less to make a meal than it costs to buy a meal from a restaurant. You can even bring your own meals to school and save on cafeteria expenses.

- If you’re planning to eat out with friends, anticipate the cost in advance so you’re not surprised by the bill. Ask your friends where you’re planning to eat out, and if it’s in a place that is beyond your budget, don’t be afraid to say so.
